Coleraine derives its name from the Coleraine vineyard, home of John and Wendy Buck of Te Mata Estate. John’s late grandfather was born in Coleraine in Northern Ireland and the name has been maintained through the family home to the wine. Originally a single vineyard wine, from 1989 Coleraine has been an assemblage of the finest wines produced from distinct plots within Te Mata Estate’s oldest vineyards on the Havelock Hills.

Coleraine ’20 is a vision realised - the jewel of Te Mata Estate’s winemaking and Hawke’s Bay’s grape-growing. The wine is a statement of intention and provenance, an unparalleled offering, with new dimensions of appeal in its depth, clarity and focus.

2020 was Te Mata's driest fruit-growing season on record. This makes for pristine fruit with intense levels of concentration. Using the latest fine-wine technology, Te Mata was able to capture the finest qualities of our Hawke’s Bay estate with a new level of control and precision.

A gleaming obsidian-dark, Coleraine ’20 flashes in the glass. From its depths glimmers wild roses and cedar, blackcurrants, dark cherries, plums - a rapid symmetry of perfectly ripe dark fruit. Notes of cocoa-nib, thyme, and layer upon layer of fine tannin are polished to a mirror-finish, shimmering the length of the wine. From its elevated aromatics to its monumental mid-palate weight, intense vitality, and long radiant finish, Coleraine ’20 is a window on midnight. Replete in detail. Out of darkness emerges an immense wine of clarity, concentration and focus. Coleraine 2020 is a perfect vision.

The 36th release of Coleraine, 2020 is Te Mata’s vision realised. A dream made crystalline. A wine that glimmers at every facet.
