Sauv Blanc wine gained its popularity in France with due credit to green skinned grapes from Bordeaux region. The name Sauv blanc white wine is derived from the words sauvage which means wild and blanc means white. Sauvignon blanc is now cultivated in many parts of the world, these grapes were first planted in New Zealand in 1973 in Marlborough region with first batch of wine bottled in year 1979. From early 1990s the demand for New Zealand's Sauv Blanc wine grew both in domestic and international markets.
